Slovenia · rainy days with kids

Slovenia in the rain: keep more than one Plan B.

Rainy-day ideas for a Slovenia camper trip with children: caves, hands-on science, thermal pools and mixed-weather family stops.

1. Postojna Cave · easiest major indoor anchor

The cave train and visitor infrastructure make Postojna the simplest big weather-proof attraction in the current Slovenia map. Take warm layers: the cave stays cool even in summer.

2. Škocjan Caves · for stronger walkers

Škocjan is more physical: the longer guided route can reach about 5 km and around 1,000 steps. It is a better rain-day choice for older children who are happy walking and climbing stairs than for stroller-age kids.

3. House of Experiments · a true indoor Ljubljana fallback

This is the most obvious hands-on indoor option in central Ljubljana. It works especially well for school-age children, but check the individual-visitor calendar because opening days can be limited outside peak summer periods.

4. Thermal water instead of sightseeing

Camp Natura / Terme Olimia and Terme Čatež give you a completely different kind of recovery day. Čatež has an indoor Winter Thermal Riviera; Camp Natura is tied to the Terme Olimia water-complex offer. Verify the current pool access included with your camping package.

5. Mixed weather in Planica or at Camping Špik

Planica combines outdoor space with a museum and indoor-snow experiences. Camping Špik has an outdoor campsite playground while the neighbouring hotel complex adds indoor play and pool options. Neither means “everything is indoors”, so check what is open that day.

6. Do not drive across the country just to escape a shower

Slovenia is compact, but a wet mountain morning does not justify turning a relaxed base into another transfer day. First look for the nearest fallback in the Finder, then move only if the weather pattern makes your next planned region genuinely better.
